Men’s Basketball edged in nailbiter at Holy Family, 74-73

The Bald Eagles dropped a heartbreaker at Holy Family on Thursday night

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Lock Haven men's basketball team led on the road by 13 after the first half, but Holy Family responded in the final 20 minutes to steal a 74-73 victory in non-conference action on Thursday night (Nov. 20).

The Bald Eagles jumped out to a sizable advantage in the first half, 40-27, behind a strong defensive effort and cold shooting from Holy Family.

The Haven held the Tigers to just 31 percent shooting (11-of-35) from the floor and 10 percent (2-of-20) shooting from behind the arch.

However, the turnover bug plagued the Bald Eagles in the second half to allow Holy Family to claw its way back in the game.

The Bald Eagles led by as much as 17 in the second half, however, the Tigers used a 22-10 run beginning at the 18-minute mark to cut its deficit to 56-51 with 11 minutes to go.

After a back-and-forth ensuing seven minutes, the Tigers completely erased the Bald Eagles' lead to knot the game at 69-69 with 3:59 on the clock.

The Tigers scored on back-to-back possessions to build their lead to four, but Dyllon Scott went on a 4-0 run by himself to tie the game at 73-73 to set up the dramatic finish.

Holy Family went 1-of-2 at the charity stripe to take a one-point lead and two good looks from the Bald Eagle offense fell short to allow the Tigers to hold on for the victory, 74-73.

For Lock Haven, Scott finished with a team-high 16 points, while going a perfect 5-of-5 from distance to lead the offense.

Dean Coleman-Newsome finished with 13 points and four assists, while Keith Warren added 12 points and five rebounds to round out the double-figure scorers.

Luke Kennevan fell one point shy of a double-double, chipping in nine points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

Blake Deegan also scored nine points and blocked a pair of shots.

Lock Haven moved to 2-2 overall and Holy Family improved to 3-0 on the season.
