WISE, Va. –
Keiva Middleton pitched a complete game and
Madison Hardy homered to lift the Lock Haven softball team to a 4-2 victory over North Greenville in the nightcap of a non-conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon (Feb. 14). The Bald Eagles fell 4-3 on a walk off to The University of Virginia's College at Wise (UVA Wise) in game one of the day.
The Bald Eagles end the weekend with a 2-2 overall record after splitting both days against UVA Wise and North Greenville.
Lock Haven won its season opener on Thursday (Feb. 13) after defeating UVA Wise 3-0.
Game 1 Recap: UVA Wise 4, Lock Haven 3
In game one, UVA Wise opened the scoring with one run in the bottom of the second, but Lock Haven worked out of the jam by stranding runners at second and third.
The Bald Eagles threated with runners in the top of the fifth, but the Cavs threw out a runner at home and worked in and out of trouble.
With their backs against the wall, trailing by two runs in the top of the seventh, the Bald Eagles rallied for two runs to tie the game.
Madison Melius started the rally with a double and later came around to score on a passed ball.
Maci Brodzina singled to plate
Blaire Balestrini and later came in to score as the tying run on a clutch, two-out single by
Bella Schmitt.
However, the Cavs hit a walk-off, two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to steal the victory.
Abby Robertson pitched the entire game for The Haven and was charged with four runs in 6.1 innings of work. Robertson tossed scoreless frames from the fourth to six innings to give the Bald Eagles a chance at the comeback.
Three Bald Eagles recorded multiple hits, including Balestrini who notched her third straight game with a base knock. Melius added a double, while Schmitt and Brodzina picked up RBIs.
Game 2 Recap: Lock Haven 4, North Greenville 2
In the nightcap, Lock Haven got its sticks rolling from the first pitch in game two and struck for a pair of runs in the top of the first.
Hailey Irwin drove in the first run, before
Madison Hardy homered to centerfield to make it 2-0.
Game one starting pitcher Robertson did damage in game two with her bat and provided the Bald Eagles an insurance run with an RBI double in the top of the fourth.
North Greenville pushed across solo runs in the fifth and sixth inning, but Lock Haven starter
Keiva Middleton shut the door from there to secure the Bald Eagle victory.
Brodzina drove in a run in the top of the seventh to round out the scoring, 4-2.
Middleton went the distance to improve to 2-0 on the year and finished with three strikeouts.
Balestrini extended her hit streak to four and scored a run, while Brodzina, Irwin, Hardy and Robertson picked up RBIs.

The Bald Eagles continue their spring training travel and will visit Goldey-Beacom (Wilmington, Del.) on Tuesday, Feb. 25 for a 1 p.m. non-conference doubleheader.
