EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. (Saturday, March 1) –
Isaiah Stewart scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Lock Haven men's basketball team to a 94-89 victory over East Stroudsburg this afternoon and the Bald Eagles will look to carry the momentum into the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship Tournament.
The Bald Eagles finished the regular season in style to improve to 15-12 overall and 12-9 in the PSAC. Lock Haven earned the No. 5 seed and are headed to the PSAC Postseason Tournament for the sixth straight season. The Haven will travel to Millersville for the opening round on Monday (March 3) at 7:30 p.m.
Lock Haven will look to reach the quarterfinal round for the third consecutive season.
With the loss, ESU finished the regular season with a 21-7 overall record and 15-6 mark in the PSAC. The Warriors will be the No. 2 seed in the Championship Tournament and earned a first-round bye.
The Bald Eagles went over the 90-point mark for the fourth time this season. The Haven knocked down a game high 13 shots from behind the arch and shot a scorching 57 percent from the field in overtime.
Four Bald Eagles' starters reached double-digits in scoring and Stewart led the charge with a game-high 27 points (8-of-13). Stewart didn't miss a shot from deep (5-of-5) or at the foul line (6-of-6).
Eli Washington finished with 18 points and his aggressive play led to a 9-of-12 afternoon at the charity stripe.
Dyllon Scott and
Kevin Coleman finished with 15 and 10 points, respectively. The duo combined for 10 rebounds and Scott secured three steals.
Bryson Scott,
Gabe Springer and
Idris Ali headlined the second unit that played a key role in the victory. Scott pulled in eight rebounds, while Springer and Ali combined for 13 points with Springer netting four points in overtime.
In the first half, Lock Haven was outstanding on both ends of the floor and shot 58 percent from the field, while holding the Warriors to just 11 makes. Lock Haven led 39-30 heading into the break.
The Warriors flipped the script in the second half as they shot near 60 percent from the floor to score 51 points, but the Bald Eagles knocked down eight 3-pointers to help force overtime.
In overtime, Washington and Springer scored the opening four points to give Lock Haven an 85-81 lead through the opening two minutes.
A pair of free throws by Stewart put the Bald Eagles up 91-86 with less than a minute to go.
The Warriors drilled a trifecta with 24 seconds remaining to cut their deficit to two, however, Lock Haven went 3-of-4 from the foul line to close out the victory.
