BENSALEM, Pa. – The Lock Haven softball extended its winning streak to four games by sweeping Holy Family 7-0 and 11-6 in a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.
With the sweep, Lock Haven has won four straight games and improved to 6-4 on the season. The Bald Eagles swept Clarion in a non-conference twinbill on Friday.
Holy Family move to 8-12.
The Bald Eagles' offense scored 18 runs on 17 hits and four different players homered in the doubleheader.
Talia Ross earned a complete-game victory in game one and closed out the nightcap to earn a save.
Game 1: Lock Haven 7, Holy Family 0
In game one,
Talia Ross pitched a complete-game shutout, the first of her collegiate career, and surrendered just two hits, while striking out three batters.
Madison Hardy went 2-for-3 with two solo home runs in the second and fourth innings.
Two more Bald Eagles hit home runs, as
Riley Best blasted a two-run shot in the fourth and
Madison Melius hit a three-run homer in the sixth.
Blaire Balestrini and
Abby Robertson added singles.
Game 2: Lock Haven 11, Holy Family 6
The Haven started the second game strong, scoring runs in five of seven innings including three-run innings in the first, fourth and seventh.
Bella Schmitt led the offense by going 2-for-3 with a three-run homer in the fourth and a two RBI single in the first.
Balestrini went a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and triple and one RBI.
Best and
Maria Fratangelo also drove in runs.
Holy Family scored six runs stretched across three innings, but The Haven's offensive outburst proved to be too much.
Robertson earned the victory in the circle after tossing 4.2 innings and was charged with just two earned runs, while striking out a pair. Ross pitched 2.1 innings in relief to earn her first save.
