GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven lacrosse team lead on the road for the entirety of the first three quarters, but 16
th-ranked Seton Hill used a late surge in the second half to steal a 14-12 victory in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship quarterfinal on Tuesday afternoon.
The Haven scored the opening goal of the game and never trailed in the first half as they built an 8-5 lead heading into the break.
However, the Griffins flipped the script in the third period by shutting out The Haven.
Seton Hill went on to outscore the Bald Eagles 9-4 in the second half to complete the come-from-behind victory.
The Bald Eagles scored the final three goals of the game beginning at the two-minute mark, but time was no longer on their side and the Griffins held on.
Makayla Kelly and
Gabby Gunnip both recorded hat-tricks and finished with four points to lead The Haven on offense. Kelly also pulled in a team-high six draw controls and forced two turnovers.
Nadia Baskot and
Emma Williams both scored twice, while Baskot added an assist and two draw controls.
Hadley Munn and
Jordan Ellis both added goals.
Mackenna Brown and
Kaitlyn Collins combined for seven ground balls, while Collins also dished out an assist.
In the first half, the Bald Eagles struck first when Munn buried the opening goal to put The Haven up 1-0.
The Haven continued to shut out the Griffins and extended its lead to 2-0 off the first goal of the game from Baskot.
Seton Hill scored two straight goals to knot things at 2-2, but Gunnip converted a free position shot with 13 seconds remaining in the first to put The Haven back on top, 3-2.
Lock Haven continued to roll in the second period and outscored the Griffins 4-1 over the first five minutes to extend its lead to 7-3.
Seton Hill countered with two goals to trim its deficit to 7-5. However, just like the end of the first quarter, Lock Haven score in the closing seconds to go back up 8-5 heading into the break.
Lock Haven finished the regular season 9-8 overall and 6-3 in the PSAC West to earn its second straight trip to the postseason tournament. Earlier today, the Bald Eagles had five athletes named to the PSAC West All-Conference Team and King was named Freshman of the Year. King was also named to the First Team All-PSAC West, while Gunnip, Baskot, Collins and Brown were tabbed Second Team.
