LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven men's basketball team held off a furious late charge from Mansfield and
Dyllon Scott knocked down a pair of free throws in the final seconds to secure a 78-76 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) victory Wednesday night (Jan. 13) at Thomas Fieldhouse.
Mike Green went a perfect 5-for-5 from behind the arch and the Bald Eagles led 42-39 at halftime. The Haven pushed its advantage to as many as seven in the second half before Mansfield rallied to tie the game at 76-76 in the final minute.
Scott drew a foul with 17 seconds remaining and was as cool as the other side of the pillow as he knocked down both free throws to give the Bald Eagles a 78-76 advantage. The Haven defense forced a wild Mansfield layup attempt as the clock struck zero and the Bald Eagles held on for the win at home.
With the victory, the Bald Eagles improved to 6-9 on the season and 2-6 in the PSAC, while Mansfield slips to 1-13 overall and 0-8 in conference play.
Scott's free throws capped an 18-point performance that included a 5-for-5 effort at the line and nine rebounds off the bench.
Keith Warren added 15 points and three 3-pointers, while Green came off the bench to pour in 15 points on a perfect 5-for-5 night from long range. Lock Haven's reserves outscored Mansfield's bench 38-32.
Luke Kennevan chipped in 12 points and six rebounds and
Blake Deegan posted 10 points and a team-high eight boards, giving Lock Haven four players in double figures and a 36-33 edge on the glass.
Dean Coleman-Newsome directed the offense with seven assists, helping the Bald Eagles to 22 total assists on 29 made field goals in a balanced offensive effort.
Mansfield remained in the game and nearly orchestrated the comeback thanks to a strong shooting night from deep, which included a 50 percent effort (8-for-16) in the first half.
