ERIE, Pa. – The Lock Haven lacrosse team turned a first-quarter blitz into an insurmountable advantage, riding a dominant offensive performance to an 18-11 victory over Gannon on Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division action.
The win moved the Bald Eagles to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in league play, while the Golden Knights fell to 3-7 on the season.
The game's defining moment came in a frantic first quarter that saw the lead change hands multiple times before Lock Haven seized control for good. Gannon came out hot to build an early 3-0 lead, but the Bald Eagles responded with a stunning eight-goal run the rest of the period - capped by back-to-back goals from
Gabby Gunnip to take an 8-3 advantage into the second quarter.
Lexi Bunk was the engine driving Lock Haven's offense all afternoon, finishing with five goals and three assists for eight points.
Gunnip was equally impactful, recording four goals and an assist, while
Maddy Raspen added four goals and
Makayla Kelly chipped in three goals and an assist.
Gannon's best quarter came in the third when they outscored The Haven 5-4, but the Bald Eagles closed out the victory with a 4-2 advantage in the fourth period.
Gretchen King made nine saves in goal for Lock Haven. Gunnip added three caused turnovers and three ground balls to her impressive outing on offense, while
Sam Hauck also scooped up three ground balls.
