Long ball leads Softball to split at Emory & Henry

The Bald Eagles split with Emory & Henry on their final day in Virginia

EMORY, Va. - The Lock Haven softball team hit six home runs to headline a 11-6, 6-11 split at Emory & Henry in a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday.

Lock Haven sits at 5-5 overall through the spring training portion of its schedule.

Game 1: Lock Haven 11, Emory & Henry 6
Lock Haven built a 6-1 lead through five innings of play, but used a five run top of the seventh to pull away for the victory.

Emory & Henry matched Lock Haven's efforts with five runs of its own in the final inning of play, but the early Bald Eagle advantage proved to be too much.

The Haven belted out a game-high 13 hits, led by a pair of base knocks from Blaire Balestrini, Abby Robertson and Madison Melius (2 2B).

Four different Bald Eagles left the yard, including Hailey Irwin, Olivia LaMeau, Maci Brodzina and Evelyn Osborne.

Osborne had the blast of the day, when she hit a grandslam in the top of the seventh to put The Haven on top, 11-1.

Talia Ross improved to 4-1 in the circle after limiting E&H to five runs on seven hits, while striking out nine in 6.1 innings of work.

Game 2: Emory & Henry 11, Lock Haven 6
The host was able to flip the script in the nightcap and came out on top, 11-6, thanks to a game-high 12 hits and crocked-scoring numbers in the first, fifth and sixth innings.

Despite the result, the Bald Eagles' bats continued to thrive and left the yard three more times in game two.

Balestrini (3-for-4, 3 RBI) hit a pair of homers and Melius added her second on the year.

LaMeau (2B) also finished with a pair of hits.

Faith Persing landed the loss, tossing five-complete innings and surrendering seven runs on nine hits, adding a strikeout.

Next up for The Haven:
The Bald Eagles remain on the road and will travel to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division affiliate Slippery Rock for a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday, March 11.
