Setting the stage:
Bloomsburg enters the game with a record of 8-2 (5-2 in the PSAC East) and is coming off of a 52-14 loss to Kutztown last week. The Huskies, who were ranked as high as No. 2 in the nation this season, have now lost back to back games for the first time since the 2009 season. The Huskies pose a big challenge to the Bald Eagles defense as they have the PSAC's third ranked offense averaging 34.3 points per game. The high-powered offense is led by sophomore running back Frank Quiteh who leads the conference in rushing yards and touchdowns. Quiteh is averaging 119.1 yards per game and has scored 12 touchdowns on the ground for BU. The Bald Eagles enter the game with a record of 0-9 (0-7 in the PSAC West) and are coming off of a 56-6 loss at home against IUP last week. LHU is led by sophomore running back
Brandon Brader who is currently ranked sixth in the PSAC in rushing averaging 91.1 yards per game. Last week's loss brought the Bald Eagles' losing streak to 41 games which is the record for the most consecutive losses in PSAC history breaking Cheyney's previous mark of 39 from 1994-98. The Division II record is 46 by Minnesota-Morris (1998-2003). Lock Haven's last win came in the 2007 season finale on the road at Clarion University (17-14 OT).
The series:
The two teams have met 81 times throughout the years and have split the series 39-39-3. Because of the rotating schedule and playoff appearances by Bloom, the two teams have not met since 2005 which Bloomsburg won 63-0. BU also won the first ever meeting between the two schools in 1908 by a final of 6-3.
Last time vs. Bloomsburg:
Lock Haven was scheduled to play Bloomsburg in the final week of the 2010 season, but BU qualified for the PSAC Championship game which is played during the same week. The two teams have not met since the 2005 campaign when the Bald Eagles hosted the Huskies during week four. BU was ranked No. 19 at the time and shutout LHU 63-0. The Bald Eagles struggled from the very beginning as they gave up 28 first quarter points and trailed 42-0 at halftime. Quarterback Brian Camberg led the way for LHU throwing for 113 yards. Defensively, David Show recorded 11 tackles in the contest.
Lock Haven's last time out:
The Bald Eagles fell in their final home game of the season last week 56-6 to IUP. IUP struck early, scoring on their first play from scrimmage and never looked back. Sophomore running back had another solid performance for LHU as he broke the 100 yard mark for the fourth time this season. He had 100 yards on 30 carries. Junior quarterback
Jarrett Kratzer completed 17 of 39 passes for 167 yards and a touchdown. Senior received
Jay Hartman caught the lone LHU score with 00:58 to go in the game. Hartman made an outstanding over-the-shoulder catch from 24 yards out to prevent the shutout. He finished the day with 57 yards receiving. Defensively, LHU was led by junior defensive tackle Skylar Wool, who recorded five tackles and one tackle-for-loss on the day.
Bloomsburg's last time out:
The Huskies are coming off of a 52-14 loss to Kutztown last week. The Huskies got a great performance from running back Frank Quiteh who ran for 151 yards on 13 carries. Quarterback Pat Carey was 8 for 19 passing on the day for 75 yards and one touchdown. BU was led defensively by Dan Haverstock who recorded eight total tackles.
Brader has another big performance:
Coming off of a career high 33 carries for 168 yards against Edinboro, sophomore running back
Brandon Brader eclipsed the 100 yard mark again last week vs. IUP totaling 100 yards on 30 carries. It was fourth time this year that Brader has eclipsed the 100 yard mark. He leads the PSAC with 219 carries on the season which is also the most for any Bald Eagle since Maurice Walker had 230 in 2004. Brader is currently ranked 38
th in the nation and sixth in the PSAC in rushing, averaging 91.1 yards per game and needs 180 yards in the final game to reach the 1,000 yard plateau. He would be the first Bald Eagle to reach the mark since 1981 (Mike Kresovich). Brader started the year off by running for 105 yards in the Bald Eagles' opener vs. Millersville, and 109 yards in the second game vs. Kutztown. He was the first Bald Eagle rusher to eclipse the 100 yard mark in back-to-back games since 2005.
