HAMPTON, Va. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (2-1) picked up a pair of wins today on the second day of competition at the Builder Baseball Invitational, hosted by the Apprentice School.
Lock Haven took down Briarcliffe (N.Y.) College 18-11 before beating Bloomsburg University 8-2 in the nightcap.
In game one, the Bald Eagles 18 runs came off 14 hits and
Cody Young (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) led the way with a 3-for-4 plate performance. He drove in one run and scored four times to lead the offense.
Down 2-0 in the bottom of the first, LHU quickly went to work and tacked on five runs.
Matt McCamley (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.
Brian Kochik (Snow Shoe, Pa./Bald Eagle) was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Kevin Cressman (Huntingdon, Pa./Mansfield Univ.) and
Scott Zuback (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain) both recorded their first home runs as Bald Eagles.
Tyler Rumsey (Mansfield, Pa./Mansfield) got the nod on the mound and went 3.2 innings before giving way to Cory Hepfer (Springfield, Pa./Penn State Brandywine), who recorded the first win of the year for LHU.
Rumsey struck out five and Hepfer sat down a pair.
Lock Haven put six runs on the board in the top of the fourth, which proved to be a huge difference in the 8-2 win over Bloomsburg.
Another huge factor for LHU was the stellar outing by senior pitcher
Jordan Yohn (Three Springs, Pa./Southern Huntingdon), who struck out seven in six innings of work. He gave up just five hits and only allowed three free passes.
Four different players recorded a multiple hit game for The Haven.
Kochik had three RBIs.
Lock Haven is at it again tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 19) in Hampton, Va. as the Bald Eagles take on host Apprentice School at 3 p.m.
