Bald Eagles open season with 4-1 win at Ohio Valley

VIENNA, W.Va. –
The Lock Haven University men's soccer team opened the 2011 season with a 4-1 win at Ohio Valley in non-conference action. 

Senior Martin Pletz (Pittsburgh/Carlynton), who led the Bald Eagles in goals, last year, picked up right where he left off last season. He led LHU with one goal and two assists for a four-point afternoon.

Pletz set up fellow running mate, Greg Shertzer (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) for The Haven's first goal in the just the ninth minute of play to put Lock Haven up 1-0.

Late in the first half, Ohio Valley found the equalizer and the two teams headed to the locker rooms knotted at one-goal apiece.

The Bald Eagles dominated the second 45 minutes of play in every facet and it showed as they found the back of the net three times and goalie Chad Badorf (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) wasn't forced to make a save in the second half on the way to the win.

Pletz put LHU up 2-1 in the 53rd minute and Mark Tattersall (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and Kyle Winey (Mifflintown, Pa./Juniata) both added goals as LHU won going away.

The Bald Eagles return to action on Wednesday, September 7 at 2 p.m. when they travel to West Chester to kick off PSAC play.
