Last time vs. Slippery Rock:
10/22/11 – Kratzer's three TDs lead late LHU rally, but Bald Eagles fall to #22 SRU, 48-27

Jarrett Kratzer threw for three second half touchdowns and the Bald Eagles scored 20 fourth-quarter points, but the late Haven rally fell short as LHU fell to No. 22 Slippery Rock University on The Haven's Homecoming.

Kratzer came off the bench to throw for three touchdowns and 157 yards. He was 15-for-20 on the day.

Jay Hartman hauled in a pair of TD passes from Kratzer. Hartman finished with 10 catches for 97 yards. Josh Livelsberger caught The Haven's third touchdown pass.

Slippery Rock led 48-14 before Ian Smith blocked a punt and returned it 25 yards to the end zone for the Bald Eagles. Smith's TD made it 48-21 in favor of The Rock. The Bald Eagles never quit and with 32 seconds left in the game, Kratzer hit Livelsberger to make it 48-27. The touchdown capped off a nine-play, 92-yard drive.

Marc Olivo made a game-high eight tackles for The Haven.

LHU storylines, streaks and sidebars:

  • Despite another tremendous defensive effort, the Lock Haven University football team fell to 0-9 on the year and 0-6 in PSAC West play.
  • Lock Haven was edged by Gannon 13-7 on Saturday night.
  • The loss marked the 51st straight for LHU. The 51 straight losses are a Division II record and the longest active losing skid in college football.
  • Late in the first quarter, George Christas returned an interception 41 yards for a TD. It was the first time since LHU and Gannon met last year that a Bald Eagle returned an interception for a TD.
  • Fifth-year senior QB Jarrett Kratzer made his 22nd career start for Lock Haven under center. Kratzer has passed for 1,298 yards and averages 144.2 yds./game. He has five TD passes on the season.

Slippery Rock at a glance:
Offensively, SRU is led by QB Nigel Barksdale. He averages 57.8 yards-per-game on the ground (six TDs) and he's passed for 10 touchdowns. Barksdale has passed for 1,237 yards and is averaging 154.6 yds./game. He's the reigning PSAC West Offensive Player of the Week.

Defensively, SRU is led by linebacker Gary Allen, who has 72 tackles. LB Quindell Dean has 67 stops, three sacks and is strong on pass defense as well.

Brader leads the way on the ground:
R-Jr. tailback Brandon Brader is coming off a breakout 2011 season. The returning All-PSAC Second Team back is averaging 51.8 yards-per-game on the ground and he has two rushing TDs. He's also second on the team in total catches with 18.

Brader is currently No. 9 all-time in the Bald Eagles record book for individual career rushing yards. He needs just four more yards to surpass Kevin Brown for eighth, who has 1,653 (1992-95).

D-FENCE:
The Haven's defense is coming up big thanks to the leadership of first-year volunteer defensive coordinator Kermit Buggs, who was on Penn State's staff since 2003 prior to LHU.

Last week, The Haven recorded two interceptions and forced three total turnovers in the game. Ryan Good made a game-high 11 tackles to lead LHU. Ben Snyder had eight tackles, four tackles-for-a-loss and two sacks. Tyrai Anderson also had an interception for The Haven.

James Goins leads LHU with 56 tackles and George Christas, who had a pick-six that went for 41 yards last week, has 55.

Allen's second year as head coach:
2012 marks the second season for head coach John Allen. The 1996 James Madison graduate was no stranger to LHU when he took over the program in March 2011, as he was previously on the Bald Eagle coaching staff as an assistant from 1996-2003. While at LHU, he assisted in all phases of the game including wide receivers and special teams' coordinator (1996-99), defensive backs coach and recruiting coordinator (1999), offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach (2000-03). Allen served as the head coach of NFL Europes Berlin Thunder in 2007 and prior to coming to LHU he was the coordinator for player development at Penn State.

LHU coaching staff promotes Coach to Cure MD:
LHU head coach John Allen and his coaching staff helped promote “COACH TO CURE MD” this season. Coach Allen and the LHU staff joined coaches all over America in wearing a patch on their left arms to help defeat a terrible genetic disorder. It's called COACH TO CURE MD. The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) is working to raise awareness and research funding to cure Duchenne (doo-SHEN) Musular Dystrophy, the most prolific genetic killer diagnosed in children. Visit, CoachToCureMD.org for more information.

Heading East:
The PSAC announced earlier this week at Lock Haven is moving to the Eastern Division for the 2013-14 academic year.

Lock Haven will join the PSAC East for football, men's and women's basketball, baseball and softball. The Haven volleyball team began playing in the Eastern Division in 2008 and will remain in the East as the league moves forward following the addition of two schools in August.

In August, the PSAC announced that the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and Seton Hill University accepted invitations to join the league at the start of the 2013-14 season.

Located approximately 50 miles apart in Southwestern, Pennsylvania, both Pitt-Johnstown and Seton Hill will play in the PSAC West.

Trio of All-PSAC selections:
Along with Brader, two other All-Conference selections from a year ago return including junior guard Anthony Herko and senior defensive tackle Skyler Wool.

Herko was the leader on the offensive line last year for LHU as he started all 10 games.

Wool, who was nominated for the Gene Upshaw Division II Linemen of the Year award last year returns after a breakout 2011 season. Wool got the starting nod in week two and never looked back last year; making 31 tackles (22 solo), 5.5 TFL, one sack and he added a fumble recovery.

Cheyney awaits:
Lock Haven closes out the 2012 season next Saturday, November 10 at home vs. Cheyney (1 p.m.).
