NEW YORK – The Lock Haven University men's and women's indoor track & field teams opened the 2013 portion of their schedule with a solid outing at tonight's (Saturday, January 12) New York Road Runners (NYRR) College Night at The Armory I meet.
The Bald Eagles finished 10th in the team standings while the Lady Eagles were 11th overall.
The Haven men were led by a strong effort in the mile and a pair of Bald Eagle freshmen shined in the middle-distance races.
Standout
Alex Monroe (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) led the way in a tactical mile with a time of 4:18.86. He finished eighth overall and was the top NCAA Division II finisher.
Seth Robbins Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and
Andrew Meterko (Punxsutawney, Pa./Punxsutawney) both clocked season-best marks with times of 4:22.14 and 4:31.15, respectively.
Monroe and Robbins times were both PSAC qualifying marks.
Freshmen
Dylan Mountain (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) and
Matt Guiod (Lincoln, Maine/Mattanawcook Acadmey) paced Lock Haven in the middle distance events.
Guiod made his indoor debut with an eight-second personal-best in the 800 meter run. He won his heat with a time of 1:56.62. Guiod's 1:56.62 was a PSAC mark and good enough for seventh overall.
Mountain, who was sensational during the cross country season, won his heat of the 1,000 meter run with a time of 2:33.75, which fell just outside Lock Haven's all-time top-five list. He was seventh overall.
The theme for tonight on the men's side was that of solid performances coming from the rookies. Freshman thrower
Brice Beals (Howard, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) kept it going with a second-place finish in the weight throw. His mark of 48-11 was a PSAC standard.
Leading the way for the Lady Eagles was
Erin Craig (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale), who was fifth in the 800 meter dash with a PSAC mark of 2:24.98.
Lindsey Lambert (Howell, N.J./Howell) returned to the track for the Lady Eagles and quickly got back to work. She was fourth overall in the 3K with a PSAC mark of 10:47.07. She was the top DII finisher in the race.
