Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (0-1) dropped its season-opener to Kutztown (2-2) tonight, 5-0 at the Builder Invitational hosted by the Apprentice School.

Kutztown, who was picked to finish fourth in the PSAC East Preseason Coaches' Poll, led 5-0 after four innings of play.  The Golden Bears tallied 11 hits in the game.

Haven starting pitcher Nick Cummings (Akron, N.Y./Akron) threw 5.2 innings and scattered 10 hits.  He recorded one strikeout.

LHU found themselves in a jam in the bottom of the first when Kutztown loaded the bases with nobody out.  Cummings dug deep on the mound however, and induced an infield fly and followed by a double play to get out of the early jam.

The Bald Eagles defense was solid in the early-season opener, as LHU did not commit an errors on the night and stranded 11 KU base-runners.

Freshman Aaron Lidgett (Morrisdale, Pa./West Branch) allowed just one hit in a solid 2.1 innings of relief.

Matt Hendrixson (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) tallied LHU's only hit in the game, a fifth inning single off of KU starter Jason Henderson.

Henderson struck out five in five innings of work.

Four different Bald Eagles drew walks in the game.

Kutztown's Kyle Stoudt went 4-for-5 and Brandon Hickey went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the game.

The Bald Eagles continue play at the Builder Invitational tomorrow (Friday, February 22) with two more games.  LHU takes on Briarcliffe at 3 p.m. and local rival Bloomsburg at 6 p.m.
