Wrestling set for home-opener, Bald Eagles host Shippensburg Friday at 7 p.m.

Lock Haven to host Youth Wrestling Night Friday (Nov. 21) – FREE youth clinic at 6 p.m.

The LHU wrestling team is set to host Shippensburg on Friday, November 21 at 7 p.m. in the Bald Eagles 2014-15 home-opener.
 
Friday is also Lock Haven's Youth Wrestling Night. As part of Youth Wrestling Night, all youth wrestlers 12 years of age and younger will be admitted free of charge. There will also be a free youth clinic at 6 p.m. in Thomas Fieldhouse.

Lock Haven news & notes:
  • Friday (Nov. 21) marks the Bald Eagles 2014-15 home-opener.
  • Friday is also the Bald Eagles 2014-15 Youth Wrestling Night.
  • Lock Haven is coming off a 1-3 weekend at the Eastern Michigan Duals last Saturday (Nov. 15).
  • The Bald Eagles are 1-4 in dual action on the season.
  • Last season, LHU was 3-10 overall (1-4 EWL) in dual action.
  • Both Dan Neff and Fred Garcia are returning NCAA Division I national qualifiers.

Last time out:
Last Saturday (Nov. 15), the Bald Eagles went 1-3 at the Eastern Michigan Duals.
 
Lock Haven opened the day with a 28-12 loss to No. 21 Ohio, but bounced back for the Bald Eagles' first dual win of the 2014-15 season, downing Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, 24-12. LHU closed the day with losses to No. 23 Kent State, 22-18 and host-Eastern Michgian, 25-13.
 
Leading the way today was Fred Garcia (Donara, Pa./Rinngold), who was 3-1. He's now 8-1 on the season.
 
EWL Wrestlers of the Week:
Last Week (Monday, Nov. 10), Dan Neff and Fred Garcia of the LHU wrestling team have been named Co-Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) Wrestlers of the Week.
 
Neff (149) and Garcia (184) both took home individual titles at Saturday's Brockport/Oklahoma Invitational, leading the Bald Eagles to second-place honors. Both went a perfect 4-0 on the way to their titles.
 
Neff, the top-seed at 149, picked up four wins on the way to the title. He opened the way with two straight majors and beat Army's Andrew Mendel 6-2 in the finals.
 
Garcia, the top-seed at 184, improved to 5-0 on the season with four wins Saturday. Garcia started the day with a pin and tech fall, before earning a hard-fought, 7-6 victory over the Sooners' Greg Wilson in the title bout.
