LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's basketball team fell in its home-opener tonight to No. 4 East Stroudsburg, 92-69 on PSECU Court at Thomas Fieldhouse.
Lock Haven (0-3, 0-1 PSAC East) battled right with nationally-ranked East Stroudsburg (2-1, 1-0 PSAC East) throughout the first half. Lock Haven trailed by just seven, 42-35 at the break.
The Warriors began to pull away early in the second, as ESU opened the second half on a, 10-2 run and led, 52-37 just 3:03 into the period. The Warriors pushed their lead to 20 points, 71-51 with 9:17 to play, and never looked back.
Wali Hepburn (Philadelphia/Neumann-Goretti) led the Bald Eagles with a game-high 29 points on 10-of-23 shooting from the field. Twenty-two of Hepburn's 29 points came in the second period. He added six rebounds and four assists.
The Bald Eagles received a great game from sophomore
Bootsie Walker (Chester, Pa./Chester). Walker was able to slash his way through the ESU defense for most of the game, finishing with 15 points. He added a team-best eight rebounds and dished out four assists.
Nate Walters (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) scored 12 points and tallied six boards on the night.
Both teams found huge success in the paint tonight. The Warriors scored 48 points in the paint and the Bald Eagles scored 36 down low.
Whis Grant paced four Warriors in double-figures with 18 points and ESU outscored LHU, 29-7 in bench points.
Tonight's game marked the first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) game for both teams.
Lock Haven returns to action on Saturday (November 22) when the Bald Eagles travel to Davis & Elkins for a non-conference matchup. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
