Volleyball caps regular season with five set thriller against Shippensburg

LHU clinches top seed for the PSAC playoffs on Tuesday, Nov. 11

SHIPPENSBURG, PA. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team (20-10, 14-8 PSAC) downed Shippensburg University (17-16, 9-13 PSAC) in five sets to end the conference with top PSAC rankings.
 
With today's win LHU clinches the top seed heading into the 2014 PSAC tournament.
 
Coming off a huge conference win against Millersville last night, the Lady Eagles battled through five sets to seal an, 3-2 (25-22, 21-25, 22-25, 26-24, & 15-9) Haven victory.
 
Shippensburg held at least a six point lead in each set, but the Lady Eagles held strong defensively in the win.
 
Offensively, LHU was firing on all cylinders as four Lady Eagles recorded double figures.
 
Cody Anderson (Johnsonburg, Pa./Johnsonburg) and Megan Flick (Howard, Pa./Bald Eagle) continued to have a dominating 2014 campaign.  Anderson recorded a match-high 21 kills and six digs.
 
Flick recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 16 digs.
 
Kaleigh Hudak (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) and Toryn Quivers made their mark on the score sheet as Hudak tallied 11 kills and Quivers added 10 in the win.
 
Jessica Brown (Fawn Grove, Pa./Kennard-Dale) delivered an all-around effort with another double-double this season.  Brown dished out 55 assists, tallied 34 digs, and registered three blocks. 
 
Sydney Belcastro (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hopewell) led LHU with a season-high 40 digs and senior Bethany Burns (Erie, Pa./McDowell) added 16 digs.
 
Freshman Sarah Gomish (Ebensburg, Pa./Bishop Carroll) continued to add to her remarkable freshman campaign with 13 digs in the win.
 
The Lady Eagles were aided by eight aces and 16 assisted blocks. 
 
Lock Haven returns to action Tuesday, Nov. 11 against Shippensburg in PSAC Quarterfinal action at home on the PSECU court (7 pm).   Check back to www.GoLHU.com on Monday for a preview of Lock Haven's PSAC Quarterfinal match.
