MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (1-5) slugged its way to its first win of the season today, 12-8 over Penn State Berks (2-3) at the Ripken Experience Complex in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Today marked the first career win at LHU for head coach Jim Chester, who took over the Bald Eagle program this year.

Ethan Moore (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) remained dialed in at the plate today. Moore put the Bald Eagles on the scoreboard in the first inning with a two-run homerun to left field. The homerun was the first of Moore's career.

LHU led, 3-1 in the third inning when
Tyson Petersheim (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) drilled an RBI triple into right-center field. Petersheim scored one batter later when
Ryan Henritzy (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) hit a sac fly to put the Bald Eagles up, 5-1.

PSU Berks came roaring back, however. The lions scored three times in the third inning and added two more in the fifth to take the lead over LHU, 6-5.

Lock Haven woke its bats back up and rallied for a four-run sixth inning highlighted by a two RBI double by
Karlston VonKiel (Alburtis, Pa./West Mont Christian).

The Bald Eagles led, 9-6 after six innings and never relinquished the lead again, tacking on three insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings.

Moore finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Â
Ryan Koch (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base.

Freshman
Aaron Cummings (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) was 3-for-4 with an RBI, run scored and a stolen base in his first career start.

Henritzy finished 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and three runs scored.
Â
Petersheim started on the mound for LHU and struck out four in four innings of work, earning a no-decision.

VonKiel picked up his first career win in two innings of relief work.

Tyler Carns (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring) notched his first career save on the day, as the senior tossed the final three innings of the game.

The Bald Eagles close out their spring break trip tomorrow (Wednesday, March 11) when The Haven heads back north with a pit stop at Virginia State University. First pitch of tomorrow's single, nine inning game is set for 2 p.m.
