LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University softball team was swept by visiting East Stroudsburg today in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East doubleheader. The Warriors won 4-0 and 4-3 (8 innings) to complete the sweep.
Â
The two teams will meet again tomorrow at ESU.
Â
Lock Haven (9-17, 5-7 PSAC East) dropped game one 4-0 and LHU fell to East Stroudsburg (16-9, 9-5 PSAC East) in game two in extra innings, 4-3 (8 innings).
Â
Game 1 Recap:Â
In game one, LHU got four hits from four different players, but the Bald Eagles couldn't plate a run.
Â
The Warriors scored all four runs in the fourth.
Â
Pitcher
Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott) struck out five and walked three, while allowing seven hits in the loss.
Â
East Stroudsburg scored its four runs on seven hits.
Â
Game 2 Recap:Â
Down 2-0 after two innings, LHU rallied for a run in the bottom of the fourth and sixth to tie the game.
Â
Trailing 2-0, LHU got within a run in the fourth after
Susan Janfrancisco's (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) pinch-hit single drove in the speedy
Paige Stuppy (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon).
Â
Michelle Holweger (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) tied the game in the sixth with an RBI single to left field.
Â
The Warriors found some magic of their own and plated two runs in the top of the eight.
Â
Again, LHU was forced to rally and it was Holweger trying to get the Bald Eagles back in the game. Her sacrifice fly to right field made it 4-3 in favor of ESU, and that was all the offense Lock Haven couldn't fire up in extras.
Â
Holweger was one of six players to record a hit in game two for LHU.
Â
Jessie Probst (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) took the loss after scattering five hits over eight innings. She struck out two.
Â
Today marked the third consecutive day that LHU has played a PSAC East doubleheader. On Saturday (April 11), LHU dropped two at Kutztown and Lock Haven split yesterday at West Chester.
Â
LHU and ESU will do it again tomorrow (Tuesday, April 14) with a doubleheader scheduled in East Stroudsburg at 2:30 p.m.
