LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team rallied for six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and the Bald Eagles held on for a 9-8 win over visiting Pitt-Johnstown in a non-conference slugfest.

Lock Haven (10-19) and Pitt-Johnstown (5-31-1) combined for 17 runs on 27 hits in the scheduled nine-inning contest.

UPJ broke open a scoreless game in the third with six runs.

Lock Haven trailed 8-1 after 3 and ½ innings, and 8-3 after four full.

Finally, in the bottom of the sixth, the Bald Eagles offense came alive and LHU plated six runs on four hits, putting LHU up 9-8.

Three different Bald Eagles pitchers including
Karlston VonKiel (Alburtis, Pa./West-Mon Christian),
Jacob Belinda (Port Matilda, Pa./Tyrone) and
Nick Hornbaker (Lancaster, Pa./Garden Spot) held UPJ scoreless over the final five innings.

VonKiel picked up the win (2-0) after working the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. He gave up one hit and struck out three. All three strikeouts came in the sixth.

Belinda and Hornbaker each pitched a scoreless inning in the eighth and ninth, respectively. Hornbaker picked up his first save of the season.

Leading the way offensively for LHU was
Ryan Henritzy (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North), who had a pair of hits, including a double. He drove in one run.

Koch finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Both
Pierce Ranck (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) and
Brett Morrison (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita) were credited with two RBIs.

The Bald Eagles return to action on Friday, April 17 at 1 p.m. when they host Mansfield in the first two games of a pivotal four-game PSAC East series.
