Lock Haven set for NCAA First Round action

#1 Lock Haven hosts #7 Rollins on Saturday, May 9 (2 p.m.)

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University lacrosse team is set to host its NCAA Division II First Round Tournament game on Saturday, May 9.
 
The Bald Eagles will host Rollins University in First Round action at 2 p.m.
 
#1 vs. #4:
Lock Haven (18-0) earned the top-seed in the South Region and will host the No. 4 seed Rollins (13-4) on Saturday. 
 
NCAA First Round Action:
The Top Eight teams heading into the NCAA Tournament were released on Sunday, May 3 during a selection show.  The lower seed will travel to the higher seed for tournament action.  The winner of the first round matchups will travel to the NCAA Final Four.
 
Lock Haven received a top-seed and the right to host Rollins in post-season action.
 
The additional south region game is a matchup between the number three seed Florida Southern (19-3) and the number two seed Lindenwood (18-1) at 1 p.m.
 
In the north region, Adelphi received a top ranking after an 18-1 season and will host the number four seed Stonehill (15-4).  Game time is set for 12 p.m.
 
Le Moyne (15-3) the number two seed, will host New Haven (17-3) who received the number three seed at 11 a.m.
 
Eighth NCAA Appearance:
Saturday's game marks Lock Haven's eighth all-time appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Bald Eagles hosted a first round match last season (2014) against Pfeiffer on Saturday, May 10. 
 
LHU downed Pfeiffer, 17-6 on Charlotte Smith Field to advance to the NCAA Final Four.  Jessica Pandolf led all-scorers in the matchup with six goals and a game-high seven draw controls.  Chrissy Baffuto recorded seven saves in the win.
 
Lock Haven advanced to the Final Four last season before falling to Adelphi University in the championship game, 7-5.
 
IWLCA Rankings:
The Bald Eagles were ranked No. 2 for most of the 2015 season until Adelphi fell to New Haven, 10-5 on Wednesday, April 22.
 
Lock Haven received a first-place ranking in this week's IWLCA Poll, which was released on Monday, May 3 with a perfect, 18-0 record.
 
Rollins is tied with Stonehill (15-4) for the seventh IWLCA ranking.
 
Back-to-Back PSAC Champions:
Lock Haven earned its second consecutive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship on Saturday, May 2.  The championship marked the eighth conference championship victory. 
 
Pandolf was named the 2015 PSAC Tournament MVP, who tallied five goals, four draw controls, and four ground balls in the win. 
 
LHU downed Seton Hill, 17-5 in semifinal action.
 
The Bald Eagles earned the right to host and the top-seed of the tournament after finishing the season 16-0 overall and 12-0 in conference play.
 
Hot streak:
Lock Haven's last loss came in the 2014 NCAA Championship game after LHU won 17 straight games to get there. Those 17 victories were a school record for consecutive wins until Saturday, when Lock Haven improved to 18-0 this season. Since March 23, 2014 (a loss to IUP), LHU has won 35 of 36 games, with the only loss coming in the last season's national title game. 
 
Seven Bald Eagles soar to All-PSAC accolades:
Last week seven Bald Eagles earned All-PSAC selections with senior Pandolf tabbed as the Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.
 
Pandolf was joined by Kelly Hamilton, Chrissy Baffuto, and Jenna Dingler on the First-Team, while Christina Hawkins, Rachel Ward, and Shannon Bissnette earned Second-Team honors.
 
Head coach Kristen Selvage was named All-PSAC Coach of the Year after leading the Bald Eagles to the 2015 PSAC Championship title.
 
Defensive Powerhouse:
The Lock Haven defensive unit has been sensational this season, heading in NCAA First Round action with a No. 2 ranking.  LHU defensively has allowed 91 goals (the lowest in the nation) with 5.06 goals per game.  Adelphi sits atop the ranking with a slim advantage, allowing 5.05 goals per game.  LHU has caused137 turnovers and currently has a .880 clear percentage.
 
Pandolf powers Haven attack:
The Haven attack has proven to be lethal, with a platoon of offensive players racking up the score sheet.  Senior Jessica Pandolf leads the Bald Eagles with 73 goals, 13 assists, 39 groundballs, and 76 draw controls.  Pandolf's 4.06 goals per game rank third in the nation and the midfielder recorded a season-high 8 goals in the PSAC championship win over Mercyhurst.
 
Rachel Ward and Kelly Hamilton have recorded a sensational season with 47 and 45 goals, respectively.  Hamilton has 33 draw controls and 27 caused turnovers thus far and will look to be an immediate threat on Saturday.
 
Last time vs. Rollins:
The Bald Eagles have not faced the Tars since the 2013 season when LHU fell to Rollins, 11-10 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
 
The Bald Eagles trailed 10-5 at the halftime break, but LHU mounted a huge second half comeback to outscore Rollins, 5-1 in the second period.  Despite the amazing second half, LHU fell short to the Tars, 11-10.
 
A look at the Tars:
Rollins enters Saturday's game with an overall record of 13-4.  The Tars are led by Tyler Thomas.  Thomas has recorded 68 goals and 34 groundballs through 17 games.  Chelsea Pinneke and Kristina Coppolino lead Rollins on the draw with 58 and 55 draw controls, respectively.
