LAKELAND, Fla. – The Lock Haven University softball team (8-6) got a sensational game-two pitching effort from freshman
Bekah Slattery (Douglasville, Pa./Daniel Boone) and the Bald Eagles split with Florida Southern (9-13-1) tonight in non-conference action.
Lock Haven dropped game one to the host Mocs, 5-2, but bounced back with a 4-0 victory.
Rachel Mouillesseaux (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott) got the start and took to the circle in game one. She went 5 and 1/3 innings and struck out two.
Trailing 3-0, Lock Haven got on the board in the top of the sixth.
Becca Caputo (Williamsport, Pa./Jersey Shore) hit a bloop single down the right field line that drove in one run and
Gabrielle Henson (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) recorded a sacrifice fly as LHU trailed 3-2 after 5 and ½ innings.
The Mocs fired right back, scoring two runs in the bottom half of the sixth and led 5-2 heading into the final frame.
The Bald Eagles' two game-one runs came off five hits. The Mocs scored five runs on six hits.
Jessica Strouse (Beech Creek, Pa./Lock Haven) was 2 for 4 at the plate.
In game two, Slattery got the nod in the circle and turned in a dominating performance, throwing a complete-game shutout. She dazzled, allowing just five hits, while recording a career-high 10 strikeouts.
LHU scored two runs in the third and two more in the fifth.
McKenna Garlock (Three Springs, Pa./Southern Huntingdon) was 2 for 4 and drove in a pair of runs.
Today marked the first meeting between Lock Haven and Florida Southern since the two teams met at the 2006 Division II College World Series. The Bald Eagles and Mocs are two of seven NCAA Division II teams that have played in more than two National Championships games.
Lock Haven returns to action tomorrow at the 2016 Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. LHU takes on Saint Rose at 9 a.m. and plays Cedarville at 11 a.m.
