LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The No. 13 Lock Haven University lacrosse team (11-2, 7-2 PSAC) hung on for a crucial Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) win, thanks to the strong play of some fresh faces, who helped the Bald Eagles drop rival Bloomsburg University (4-8, 2-7 PSAC).
Rachel Engler (Perkiomenville, Pa/Rutgers) and
Jenna Dingler (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) sparked the attack and
Kelly Close (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) played an all-around sensational game.
Sam Dotterer (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) was one of three Lock Haven players, who made their first career start and she stood out on defense.
Hope Thomas (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) was also fantastic and Haven goalkeeper
Hannah Houde (Jackson, N.J./Slippery Rock Univ.) also played well, finishing with seven saves.
Kate Hooper (Perth, Western Austrailia/St. Mary Anglican Girls School) and
Anneli Starry (Conestoga, Pa./ Penn Manor) also made their first career starts.
Both Engler and Dingler netted hat tricks. Dingler was all over the field and finished with two caused turnovers and three ground balls.
Hope Thomas (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) scored two goals and handed out an assist.
Shannon Bissnette (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) did her thing and finished one goal and three assists.
Close had two groundballs and two caused turnovers on the day, while
Leah Peppelman (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) and Dotter both had one caused turnover in the win.
The defense as a unit had 10 caused turnovers.
LHU returns to action on Saturday, April 16 at noon vs. Gannon.
