LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The storylines for Lock Haven University head men's soccer coach
Patrick Long were plentiful in today's home-opening 3-2 (OT) victory over Roberts Wesleyan College (1-2), but none bigger than that of senior forward
Troy Amspacher (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga) who netted three goals including one late in regulation to tie the match, and the game-winner just one minute into overtime.
With the win, Lock Haven moves to 2-1 on the season and the victory gives Long his first at home as head coach.
Early on the story was the weather as the two teams played for just 6:11 before the game went into a weather delay because of lightning. After a heavy rain dampened the field and a one hour and 40-plus minute delay, the two teams got back on the pitch.
Malcolm Shaw put Roberts Wesleyan up 1-0 in the 29
th minute on just the Redhawks second shot of the match.
RWC led 1-0 at halftime, but that's when Amspacher got the Bald Eagles started with his first of three strikes in the 50
th minute after a sensational individual run.
Trailing 2-1 late in the game, Amspacher took the match over and tied the game with just over 10 minutes to play.
With all the momentum on the Bald Eagles' side heading into the extra period, Amspacher needed just one minute to put the game away and send the home faithful into a frenzy. Amspacher collected a perfect pass from
Zach Hommey (Woodsboro, Md./Walkersville) and chipped the goalie for the win.
Tyler Weikert (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) was credited with an assist on The Haven's second goal.
LHU goalkeeper
Troy Teresak (Pompton Plains, N.J./DePaul Catholic) made two big saves in the victory and he got a workmanlike effort from his defenders as they grinded out the hard-fought win.
Freshman
Brian Flatter (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) was all over the field and turned in a stellar effort from his midfield spot.
The Bald Eagles return to action on Saturday, September 10 at Alderson Broaddus at 7:30 p.m.
