LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (12-4, 2-2 PSAC East) got the bats going and exploded for 10 runs on 10 hits, and pitcher
Brett Morrison (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita) was nearly untouchable in a 10-3 game-two victory, which helped the Bald Eagles split with their local-rival Mansfield University (10-11, 2-2 PSAC East) today in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action.
Mansfield took today's opener, 1-0, but the Bald Eagles rolled in game two. The two teams opened their four-game PSAC East set on Thursday at Lock Haven, and they split that doubleheader as well.
In game one today, Mansfield scored the only run in the bottom of the first, but it was good enough to hold up and be the difference in the outcome.
In all, Lock Haven had seven game-one hits including two from
Kolby DeHaas (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho/Wenatchee Valley Community College).
Pitcher
Zach Manuppelli (Pittsburgh/USC Upstate) worked six solid innings. He struck out four and allowed just one walk.
In today's nightcap, LHU scored 10 runs on 10 hits and came away with the lopsided 10-3 victory.
The offense was powered by a number of players in the lineup including
Matt Lahn (Georgetown, ONT./Erie Community College), who was 3 for 4 at the plate.
Hunter Szaflarski (Greencastle, Pa./Hagerstown Community College) went 2 for 5 with three RBIs and a run scored,
Nick Stotler (Pittsburgh/Coker College) added a pair of hits including a home run and
Cayden Stover (Beech Creek, Pa./Chesapeake College) added a pair of hits.
LHU, who was playing as the away team after the games were moved from Mansfield because of unplayable field conditions, led 4-3 after six innings, and the Bald Eagles broke open the game in the top of the seventh with six runs.
The Bald Eagles got a sensational start from Morrison as the junior right-hander struck out 10 and scattered just four hits in 5 1/3 innings.
The Bald Eagles will return to the field on Wednesday, March 29 at 1 p.m. when they host Clarion University in a PSAC crossover doubleheader.
