LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's soccer team (3-5, 3-5 PSAC) looked poised for the upset and dominated every facet of the opening half, but a strong second-half by Taylor Lewis proved to be the difference for No. 25 Gannon University (7-1-1, 6-1-1 PSAC), who escaped The Haven with the 2-1 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) win.
The Bald Eagles dominated Gannon in the opening half and were rewarded in the 41
st minute when
Leisha Noble (West Milford, NJ./West Milford) crossed the ball into the box and it drifted over the goalkeepers head into the back of the net.
Gannon, however, got on the scoreboard with 24 seconds remaining in the first half from Lewis, who tied the match at 1-1.
Early in the second half, it was Lewis again who scored as she took a long pass from Sarah Kaiser and fired the ball near post to take the 2-1 lead which would hold for the final score.
The Bald Eagles looked to tie the match up late in the game when
Jordan Shoff (York, Pa./York Suburban) got behind the defense and tried to chip the ball over the keepers head, but Danitza Indacochea came up big for the Golden Knights in net.
Freshman
Lauren Tubay (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) was all over the pitch, giving the Gannon defenders trouble all game. She led LHU with four shots and three of them on target.
Bree Hilty (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) stepped up in the net as she recorded eight saves in the game with five of them being in the second half.
The Haven will take to the pitch next when they head to take on East Stroudsburg on Wednesday October, 4 with the game starting at 4:00 PM.
