DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Lock Haven University field hockey team (7-5, 1-2 A-10) picked up its first Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) win of the 2018 season tonight at Davidson College, but the victory proved more than just that as it was a truly historic night for the Bald Eagles. The 2-0 win at Davidson gave LHU head coach
Pat Rudy her 600
th career victory, a career coaching milestone that only two NCAA field hockey coaches have reached before her.
Katie Supey (Lehman, Pa./Syracuse) scored just 12:23 into the match and
Tamia Roach (Petit Valley, Trinidad and Tobago/St. Joseph's Convent Port-of-Spain) scored with just three minutes to play to seal the historic win.
Rudy entered the 2018 season with 593 wins and tonight's win – the seventh of the season for LHU – pushed her to the magic No. 600. Rudy's 600 wins are the third-most in NCAA field hockey history and previous to today, only two other coaches had reached and surpassed that 600-win mark in the sport.
With the road-win tonight at Davidson (4-7, 1-2 A-10), Lock Haven improved to 7-5 overall and snapped a rare two-game losing streak. The win also marked Lock Haven's first conference win of the season, as the Bald Eagles moved to 1-2 in A-10 play with five ever so important league games remaining.
LHU struck quickly tonight and the Bald Eagles led 1-0 just 12:23 into the contest. Supey collected a pass from
Kayla Brathwaite (Arouca, Trinidad and Tobago/Bishop Anesty East) and knocked the ball home for the early lead.
The Bald Eagles took that 1-0 lead into halftime.
Lock Haven's second-half pressure finally paid off late, and Roach sealed the victory with just three minutes to play.
LHU's defense was sound and the Bald Eagles only allowed two shots for the entire match. Leading the way for the defensive unit was
Taylor Plouse (Middletown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) who preserved the clean sheet with a defensive save in the 66
th minute, just 1:10 before Lock Haven's second goal. Goalkeeper
Brianna DeAngelis (Doylestown, Pa./Monmouth) played all 70 minutes and made one save.
Coach Rudy is now 600-219-21 all-time. The 2018 season marks her 23
