Devine’s 22 powers Lock Haven past Pitt-Bradford

LHU Women’s Basketball pulled away in the second half for a home opening win over Pitt-Bradford.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa.- Rileigh Devine (Etters, Pa./Red Land) and the Lock Haven University women's basketball team (2-1) surged past the Pitt-Bradford Panthers (0-3) Wednesday night 64-54 in the Bald Eagles' home opener.

The Panthers started quickly and jumped out to a 19-15 lead on Lock Haven at the end of the first quarter. In a back and forth struggle, the Bald Eagles took the lead at halftime, 35-34. Led by feisty defense and strong perimeter shooting in the second half, the Haven built upon that lead and cruised home for a 64-54 win.

Lighting up the scoreboard was Devine who finished the night with 22 points. The junior guard hit six 3-pointers, four of which came in a second half outburst, which helped the Bald Eagles grow their lead. Also in double figures for the Haven was Ayanda McGill-Jefferson (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Turning in more strong performances were freshman Taylor Leidy (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) and Nadia Romanchock (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin). Both freshman chipped in with nine points each. Leidy added five rebounds and five assists, while Romanchock tallied four assists and two steals.

The Haven defense forced 22 turnovers from Pitt-Bradford and also controlled the glass. Bink Redman (York, Pa./William Penn) led the team with 10 boards while McGill-Jefferson and Jalyn Shelton-Burleigh (State College, Pa./State College) grabbed seven each.
