MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Lock Haven University softball team (1-3) opened up day two of the Snowbird Softball Freezeout with a game against Merrimack College (3-0) before playing the second game of the day against Le Moyne College (3-0). The Bald Eagles fell in game one 9-2 before falling in game two 7-1.
In the first game against the Warriors, home runs by
Madison Mathes (Hammonton, N.J. Hammonton) and
Moriah Lindsey (Woolrich, Pa./Central Mountain) weren't quite enough to overcome a seven run third inning for Merrimack. In the end, The Warriors were able to tack on two more runs in the fourth to secure the victory.
Lock Haven was led by
Chloe Kennedy (Elkton, Md./Caravel Academy) as she went 2 for 4 in the game with two base hits.
In the second game against Le Moyne, the Dolphins got off to a fast start and jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and were able to extend that lead to 7-0 in the sixth inning.
A Lindsey (Woolrich, Pa./Central Mountain) triple in the sixth inning scored
Faith Ceely (Troy, Pa/Troy) to give LHU some life, but it ended up being the only run The Haven could muster as Le Moyne was able to hold on for the win.
The LHU offense was led by Lindsey, Ceely, and
Bryann Hilty (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) as they all tallied hits for the Bald Eagles.
Kayla Gee (Williamsport, Pa/Loyalsock) went the distance in the circle for Lock Haven. Gee was able to strike out three in the outing.
The Bald Eagles will hit the field tomorrow for the third and final day of the Snowbird Freezeout when The Haven takes on Wilmington (Del.) at 10 a.m. before closing out the weekend against Southern New Hampshire at 12 p.m.
