LHU rallies late, falls on the road to ESU

The Lock Haven women’s basketball team rallied late, but ultimately dropped a tough road contest to fellow PSAC East foe East Stroudsburg.

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (4-17, 3-14 PSAC) staged a massive rally late,  but couldn't quite complete it as the Bald Eagles fell on the road to East Stroudsburg University (15-6, 13-4) 76-68 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East battle.

LHU and ESU exchanged runs in the first half. The Warriors jumped out to a 17-6 start to put The Haven on their heels early. Lock Haven responded to that run with a run of their own to cut the East Stroudsburg lead to six late in the first half.

In the second half, ESU was able to push the lead to as many as 23 with a big third quarter, but the fourth quarter was all Lock Haven.

The Bald Eagles outscored The Warriors 28-13 in the final frame with a huge quarter from Kayla Henderson (Philadelphia/Lackawanna College). Henderson matched her career-high with 23 points, with 17 of those points coming in the second half. She helped lead the ferocious Haven rally as LHU cut the deficit from 23 to six with 40 seconds remaining.

In the end, East Stroudsburg was able to make some free throws down the stretch to outlast Lock Haven's late rally.

Henderson was superb for LHU, hitting three of her career-high four three-pointers on the night in the second half. She was able to go on her own 8-0 run to keep the Warriors sweating late in the ball game.

Bink Redman (York, Pa./William Penn) was also great for the Bald Eagles. Redman recorded her first career double-double, scoring a career-high 19 points to go along with a career-high 10 rebounds. She finished the night an efficient 7-9 from the field and 5-7 from the free throw line.

Ahnera Parker (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) also recorded her first career double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing a career-high 10 rebounds.

The Bald Eagles will return to Thomas Fieldhouse for their next game to host Shippensburg on Saturday, February 10, 2018 for a PSAC matchup. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
