LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – A veteran Lock Haven University men's soccer team (0-1) opened the 2018 season today at home and despite a tremendous 90 minutes of soccer from the Bald Eagles, LHU was edged 1-0 by Le Moyne College (1-0).
The Dolphins scored on the first shot of the match and the eighth-minute tally stood as the deciding factor in the outcome of the game, the season-opener for both squads.
Lock Haven outshot Le Moyne 11-4. Seven of those 11 shots came in the second half as the Bald Eagles tilted the field and dominated the visitors. One of the best chances came early in the second after
Brian Flatter (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) broke behind the defense and fired a shot that forced a diving save from Le Moyne goalkeeper John Mahr.
Mahr finished with two saves and his LHU counterpart
Camden Cook (Rosedale, Md./High Point) was not called upon to make a save as the Lock Haven defense was sound despite the early goal which came off a deflected shot and against the run of play.
Freshman
Steven Schankweiler (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) made his first career start and turned in 90 solid minutes. He finished with a pair of shots.
Christian Wieand (Elizabethtown, Pa./Muhlenberg) also turned in strong effort for Lock Haven.
The Bald Eagles will return to action on Sunday, September 2 at 3 p.m. when they host perennial power West Virginia Wesleyan.
