LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Alyscia Smith (Newport, Pa./Newport) and
Dana-Lee De Gannes (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago/Maraval) each scored twice, and the Lock Haven University field hockey team (6-3) cruised by host Hofstra (2-9), 5-2, this afternoon in non-conference action.
The win was big one in many ways and provided LHU Hall of Fame head coach
Pat Rudy with her 599
th career win, as she's now just one win away from the prestigious 600-win mark. Only two coaches in NCAA collegiate field hockey history have won 600 or more games, as Rudy is knocking on the door of a truly historic achievement.
With today's win, Lock Haven also moved to 6-3 on the season. The win, LHU's second straight, helped the Bald Eagles cap a perfect 2-0 weekend after Friday's 5-0 win at LIU Brooklyn. This marked LHU's second straight five-goal game and over the last two games, Lock Haven has outscored its opponents, 10-2.
Taryn Piano (Temple, Pa./Muhlenberg) provided Lock Haven's other goal today.
Defensively, it was another solid effort from everyone in lineup and goalkeeper
Brianna DeAngelis (Doylestown, Pa./Monmouth) made two saves.
De Gannes opened the scoring just 1:20 in when she shot home a pass from
Niamh Sexton (Fermoy, Ireland/Loreto Secondary School Fermoy). Piano made it 2-0 in the 13
th minute when she tipped home a pass from Smith.
LHU led 2-0 at halftime, but Hofstra found a goal in the 40
th minute.
Leading 2-1, Smith took a pass from Piano and made it 3-1 in the 42
nd minute. Smith scored her second of the game and made it 4-1 in the 44
th minute when she converted a penalty stroke.
Valerie Vogels scored her second of the game for Hofstra in the 53
rd minute, as Lock Haven led 4-2.
De Gannes capped the scoring with just 11 seconds left in the game after a tremendous individual effort.
On Friday, September 28, LHU will host No. 16 Saint Joseph's in Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) action at 4 p.m., before hosting Rider on Sunday, September 30 at 1 p.m. in non-conference action.
