LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – After not scoring in the first two games of the season, the Lock Haven University men's soccer team (1-1-1) got the offense rolling tonight and found the back of the net twice in each half on the way to a dominating 4-1 win at Felician University (0-3-1), marking the Bald Eagles first win of the 2018 season.
Leading the way tonight was
Brian Flatter (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) who had a goal and two assists.
Andrew Moore (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) added a goal and assist, and Lock Haven also got goals from
Beckham Sibiski (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown H.S.) and
Nicholas Kuster (Holbrook, NY./Sachem North).
Over the first two games of the season – a narrow 1-0 loss to perennial power LeMoyne and a 0-0 double-OT draw with West Virginia Wesleyan – the Bald Eagles couldn't crack the scoresheet in an all-around solid 200 minutes of soccer. That all changed today as the offensive pressure paid off. Lock Haven outshot Felician 18-3 and the Bald Eagles were rewarded to the tune of four goals.
As the offense started click and roll along tonight, the Bald Eagles defensive unit remained steady. Leading the way was Kuster, LHU's center-back who also opened the scoring tonight.
Over 290 total minutes this season, the Bald Eagles have allowed just two goals.
Kuster headed home the opening goal in the 16
th minute off a free kick from Flatter. In the 28
th minute, Sibiski made it 2-0 off a pass from Moore.
The hosts got one back late in the opening half as Lock Haven led 2-1 at the break.
Flatter scored in the 84
th minute off a rebound from the initial shot of
Christian Wieand (Elizabethtown, Pa./Muhlenberg) to make it 3-1, and in the final minutes (88'), Moore made it 4-1 when he headed home a Flatter corner kick.
The tremendous defensive effort in front of LHU goalkeeper
Camden Cook (Rosedale, Md./High Point) left the Bald Eagle to only make one save.
Tonight's match marked Lock Haven's first road test of the season and the Bald Eagles will remain on the road as they head to NYIT for a 3 p.m. match on Saturday, September 8.
