Setting the stage:
The nationally-ranked Lock Haven University wrestling team is set for a busy weekend.
The No. 22 Bald Eagles will open the weekend with a big non-conference clash Friday (Jan. 25), as LHU will meet No. 12 Arizona State at Red Lion High School in Red Lion, Pennsylvania, the heart of the PIAA's District 3.
Friday's match at Red Lion High School is expected to sell out, and feature a standing-room only capacity crowd.
Friday will serve as a homecoming of sorts for nine current Bald Eagles, all of whom competed in high school among the District 3 ranks. One of those District 3 alums is returning All-American
Chance Marsteller (2018 NCAA's; 4
th 165 lbs.).
Lock Haven will return home to Clinton County and host Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) foe Millersville University on Sunday (Jan. 27) at 1 p.m. in Thomas Fieldhouse.
Lock Haven enters the weekend at 3-2 overall.
No. 12 Arizona State features a host of nationally-ranked wrestlers and the Sun Devils are 4-6 overall. Lock Haven and ASU haven't met since 2003, a 21-16 Arizona State victory. The Sun Devils lead the all-time series 4-1.
Millersville is ranked No. 25 (tie) in DII and the Marauders are 2-5 overall. Lock Haven is 37-3-1 all-time vs. Millersville and has won 24 straight over MU. The last meeting between the two came during the 2010-11 season, a 37-3 LHU victory.
For the first time in a while, the Bald Eagles lineup will be near full strength as all four of LHU's nationally-ranked wrestlers are expected in the lineup Friday night. This week,
Kyle Shoop (141),
Chance Marsteller (165),
Corey Hazel (184) and
Thomas Haines (285) were all listed in the national rankings. Lock Haven will also look to benefit from
DJ Fehlman's return to 133 pounds. Fehlman has won 23 matches (23-5) this season competing up at 141 pounds. Fehlman was a 2017 national qualifier at 133 and he could face a familiar face on Friday night as ASU lineup features a former Bald Eagle wrestler.
Lock Haven news, notes & storylines:
- LHU's projected weekend lineup features four nationally-ranked wrestlers. All four are expected in the lineup this weekend.

Friday's featured bout:
All eyes Friday night will be on the featured bout at 165 pounds as Lock Haven's fourth-ranked
Chance Marsteller returns to his hometown area. He'll face a stern test in Arizona State's Josh Shields. Shields, a western Pennsylvania native, is ranked fifth at the weight class. Marsteller is 13-1 on the year, while Shields is 19-3. The match will serve as a homecoming of sorts for Marsteller, who graduated from Kennard-Dale High School in Fawn Grove, Pennsylvania, located just 26 miles from Red Lion. Friday's match with Arizona State will start at 174 pounds, leaving the Marsteller-Shields match to cap the night.

Millersville is 2-5 overall (0-4 vs. PSAC DII opponents), but the Marauders are ranked in a tie for No. 25 in the most recent NCAA DII InterMat National Rankings. MU's lineup features a standout at 165 pounds as Shane Ruhnke is ranked third at the weight class (D2).
Last time out // Jan. 12, 2019 // at Virginia Duals vs. Kent State:
Last weekend's Cleveland State dual was postponed because of weather so Lock Haven last competed on Day 2 action at the 2019 Virginia Duals. The Bald Eagles capped a busy three-dual weekend in Hampton, Virginia with a big win over Kent State. It proved to be a bounce-back win as Lock Haven won seven of 10 bouts on the way to the 26-15 victory over Kent State. The Bald Eagles posted three major decisions and a tech fall, and moved to 3-2 overall while rebounding from Day 1 losses to Virginia and Oklahoma.
