Career days from Kelly, Barnes and Cerruti power Bald Eagles by Cheyney

The LHU men’s basketball team used career days from Christian Kelly, Jihad Barnes and Matt Cerruti to power past Cheyney, 94-82 Saturday afternoon at the Thomas Fieldhouse.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa.-  The Lock Haven University men's basketball team (7-9) used career days from Christian Kelly (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville), Jihad Barnes (Philadelphia/Philadelphia Electric Charter) and Matt Cerruti (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood) to power past Cheyney University (1-16), 94-82 Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at the Thomas Fieldhouse.
                                         
The Bald Eagles and the Wolves battled it out all game long, consistently exchanging runs with neither team able to put the other away. In the end, Lock Haven was able to use an 11-3 run late in the game to push the lead to nine and put the game away at the foul line to seal the win.
 
Kelly collected his first career double-double as he totaled 23 points to go with 15 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals in an all-around sensational effort. He knocked down 8 of 15 shots from the field and continually gave LHU extra possessions as he snagged six offensive rebounds.
 
Barnes scored a career-high 22 points on an extremely efficient night for the junior guard. He finished 8 of 11 from the field and a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line to go with four assists, three rebounds and a steal.
 
Cerruti led all Lock Haven scorers in the game as he tied his career-high with 26 points. He finished 9-15 from the field and knocked down four of five three-pointers, including three straight in his own personal 9-2 run that turned a two point deficit into a five point lead early in the second half.
 
The Bald Eagles also benefitted from the strong inside play of Jesse McPherson (Philadelphia/Archbishop Wood). McPherson finished the game with 14 points and eight rebounds, including five offensive.
 
Overall, LHU shot 53.2 percent from the field in the game and forced 15 turnovers by the Wolves as Lock Haven was able to pull away late and get the win.
 
The Bald Eagles will host Kutztown on Wednesday, January 30 at 7:30 in their next game. That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
