LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven University women's basketball team (12-11, 7-9 PSAC) topped East Stroudsburg University (9-14, 6-10 PSAC), 58-55, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action on Wednesday night in Thomas Fieldhouse. The win proved historic for head coach Jennifer Smith who became just the second LHU coach to achieve the 100-win mark at the university.
In the first quarter, the teams traded buckets without either team putting a real handprint on the game, and Lock Haven was able to take a slim 12-10 advantage into the second quarter off a Rileigh Devine (Etters, Pa./Red Land) three pointer.
In the second quarter, two more three pointers from Devine and eight first half points from Ahnera Parker (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) helped the Haven build a 30-23 lead at the half.
The Warriors came flying out in the third quarter going on an 8-0 in the opening minutes to take a 31-30 lead with 6:37 in the third. East Stroudsburg would carry a 43-42 lead into the fourth quarter after the Warriors hit four three pointers in the quarter.
The two squads would get locked into a gritty fourth quarter in which Taylor Leidy (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) and Bink Redman (York, Pa./William Penn) got their fingerprints all over the game. The backcourt duo would combine to score 10 of the teams 15 and dominate the quarter to lead the Bald Eagles past East Stroudsburg. In the end, the freshman Leidy would seal the game with a key defensive rebound and two clutch free throws to give the Haven the win 58-55
Offensively, the Haven was paced by Parker who scored 14 points, including two late free throws, and grabbed five rebounds. Devine would end the night scoring 12 on 3-6 from beyond the arc.
Leidy would finish with nine points, six of which came in her strong fourth quarter, and dished out three assists. Redman ended with six points, eight rebounds and six assists. Ayanda McGill-Jefferson (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) would lead all players with nine rebounds on the night.
