Lacrosse drops nail-biter at Slippery Rock

The LHU lacrosse team fell in a thrilling PSAC opener against Slippery Rock on Tuesday afternoon.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Lock Haven University lacrosse team (2-4, 0-1 PSAC) fell just short against Slippery Rock University (2-3, 1-1 PSAC), 14-13, in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opener for the Bald Eagles.
 
The conference opener for The Haven proved hotly contested and neither team was able to stretch a lead higher than three goals for the entire game. From the opening whistle, the fireworks began as each team grabbed a goal in the first three minutes of the game. The flow would continue the entire 60 minutes and the Bald Eagles took a slight 7-5 lead into the half.
 
In the second half, Slippery Rock battled back to tie the game at 11 with 13 minutes to play. What followed was a fascinating finish with both teams trading crucial goals. In the final two minutes, however, The Rock would get the game-winning goal and was able to see out the remaining time.
 
Caitlin Morrow (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) dominated the attacking zone for Lock Haven netting a game high five goals and dishing out two assists. Three other Bald Eagles scored twice: Braxtin Reddinger (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford), Zoe Waddell (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) and Kate Hooper (Perth, Western Australia/St. Mary Anglican Girls School) all found the net twice on the day.
 
Loren Librizzi (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) was strong once again leading all players with three assists and added one goal. Goalkeeper Lauren Girardi (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) made save after save to keep the game close and racked up 18 saves and a .563 save percentage as Slippery Rock totaled 46 shots in the game.

The Bald Eagles return home and host Gannon on Saturday, March 23 at 1 p.m.
