LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The LHU women's basketball team (10-7, 7-5 PSAC East) downed the Millersville Marauders (5-12, 2-10 PSAC East) 82-75 on Wednesday evening in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East matchup at Thomas Fieldhouse.
Rileigh Devine (Etters, Pa./Red Land) got the scoring going early, knocking down a three just ten seconds in to the game to give the Bald Eagles the lead, one they would never relinquish. Lock Haven controlled play for most of the first, taking an 18-12 lead in to the second quarter, and continued to push ahead in the second as they went up by as much as 12 points before settling in to a 37-30 lead at the half.
Millersville began to cut the deficit in the third quarter, narrowing the advantage to just two points before Lock Haven was able to regain control and build up another significant lead. As the third quarter came to a close, Marena Lonardi (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) prevented a near turnover with an outstanding sprawling effort, getting the ball to Devine who hit a three in the final seconds of the third to make it 62-53.
The Marauders closed the difference to just two once again in the final quarter, but the Bald Eagles quickly hit back with a six-point run to go up 70-62. Lock Haven never looked back, holding down the fort to take the 82-75 victory.
