LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University Lacrosse team (2-1) downed previously unbeaten Millersville University (2-1), 15-6, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East versus West crossover battle at Charlotte E. Smith Field.
Â
Early in the half, the Bald Eagles started quick and jumped on the Marauders 3-0 in the opening minutes. The Haven kept pouring it on and led 6-1 with eight minutes left in the half behind two goals from
Braxtin Reddinger (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) and a goal and an assist from
Campbell Brant (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River). LHU took a 6-3 lead into halftime.
Â
In the second half, the Bald Eagles imposed their will and stretched out a lead of as many as ten goals. The Haven outscored the Marauders 9-3 in the half thanks to two more goals from Reddinger and two from both
Caitlin Morrow (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) and
Raleigh Bateman (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford).
Â
In another fine offensive performance by the Haven, nine different Bald Eagles found the back of the net, led by Reddinger's four. Bateman, Morrow and
Zoe Waddell (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) each tallied two goals while Brant,
Karli Gilbert (Perkiomenville, Pa./Boyertown),
Krysta Reading (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South),
Addy Borkowski (Eagleville, Pa./Methacton) and
Eden Fletcher (Valencia, Pa./Mars Area) all added one goal each.
Fresh off a performance which earned her PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Week honors,
Lauren Girardi (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) turned in another stellar effort between the pipes. Girardi, one of the premier goalkeepers in the conference, made 17 saves as she proved too much for Millersville in front of the net.
Â
Brant led all Bald Eagles with two assists as the Haven shared the ball efficiently recording seven assists on their 15 goals. Reddinger, Morrow, Borkowski,
Loren Librizzi (Miller Place, N.Y./Millerplace) and
Casey Hibbard (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne Central) all added a helper of their own.
Â
Defensively,
Jenna Wismer (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) and
Shannen Roy (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) stifled a Marauder attack which had scored 40 total goals in its first two games. The Haven forced Millersville into committing 19 total turnovers and held the Marauders to their season low five goals.
Â
The Haven held a decisive 15-8 edge in draw controls, led by Gilbert who recorded a game high six. Bateman and Reddinger turned in five and four draw controls, respectively.
