LOCK HAVEN, Pa. –The Lock Haven University men's basketball team (1-0) opened its season with a, 75-70, win over visiting Nyack College (1-2) on Tuesday night in the Bald Eagles 2021 season-opener and first official game in nearly two years.
The Bald Eagles and Warriors were in a close battle throughout the game and Nyack took a slender 37-35 lead into the break. Powered by 60 percent shooting from the field in the second half, the Bald Eagles held the lead for most of the second half and closed out the 75-70 win.
MarkAnthony Fidelis (Largo, Md./DeMatha) paced all players and racked up 23 points on 9-16 from the field, including three made from beyond the arc. Fidelis also handed out four assists.
A total of four Bald Eagles reached double figures in a balanced LHU attack.
Eli Washington (East Petersburg, Pa./Hempfield) notched 15 points and four assists and
Jesse McPherson (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) added 12 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Dymir Montague (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) rounded out the scoring with ten points on 4-6 from the field.
For the game, Lock Haven shot a strong 54.9 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from beyond the arc. LHU also blocked four Warriors shots and shot a nearly perfect 12-13 from the free throw line.
Led by McPherson and
DaQuan Granberry (Linwood, Pa./Chichester) who each grabbed six rebounds, the Bald Eagles held a 33-29 advantage on the glass including a 28-18 lead in defensive rebounds.
