LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University women's soccer team's (5-11-1, 3-11-1 PSAC East) strong bid for an upset came up just short Wednesday night as No. 3 Kutztown University (16-1, 14-1 PSAC East) slipped by the Bald Eagles 1-0 in the midweek Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division match.
Lock Haven opened the contest strong and put together a tremendous first-half effort, but nationally-ranked Kutztown led 1-0 at halftime on a last-minute goal. KU's Joslyn Stoltz ran onto and headed home a long looping pass into the box from Molly McHarg.
The goal came with just 35 seconds left in the first half and stood as the difference maker in tonight's conference clash.
Kylie Auman (Centre Hall, Pa./Penns Valley) stood strong in goal. She finished with seven saves, including a sensational stop midway through the second half, which kept it a one-goal game.
Defensively,
Taylor Moritz (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton),
Leah Jensen (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township),
Sydney Cauffman (Millerstown, Pa./Greenwood) and
Abby Burdyn (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) all played well.
Kutztown entered tonight's match ranked No. 1 in the latest NCAA Division II Atlantic Region rankings and the Golden Bears remained at No 3 in this week's national poll. KU's only loss came on Oct. 9 vs. West Chester.
Lock Haven will close the 2021 regular season on Saturday, November 6 at 6 p.m. on the road at Mansfield University.
