NEW CASTLE, Del. –The Lock Haven University men's basketball team (4-2) fell to Wilmington University (4-8), 68-54, in a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.
Wilmington opened the game on a hot start and led the Bald Eagles 8-2 in the opening minutes of play. Behind strong shooting and stout defense, the Wildcats stretched the lead to as many as 16 points in the first half, and held a 42-26 lead at the halftime break.
The Wildcats kept on the defensive pressure in the second-half and were able to hold the Bald Eagles at bay for the second half. A 48.2 percent shooting day from the field helped the Wildcats keep the lead and seal a 68-54 victory. The Wildcats got a game-high 19 points from Randy Rickards, who finished at 9-15 from the field.
DaQuan Granberry (Linwood, Pa./Chichester) led two Bald Eagles in double-figures with 15 points. Granberry also tied for the team-high with eight rebounds.
James Price (Joppa, Md./Archbishop Curley) chipped in 12 points of his own and also hauled in eight boards.
Eli Washington (East Petersburg, Pa./Hempfield) rounded out The Haven scoring and notched eight points to go with seven rebounds.
Despite the loss, the Bald Eagles held a distinct 47-37 advantage in rebounding and a clear 21-5 lead on the offensive glass. The Haven also held a 36-28 advantage in points in the paint.
