LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Forward
Ahnera Parker (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey) tallied 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds, but the Lock Haven Univeristy women's basketball team (3-1, 0-1 PSAC) couldn't overcome a stellar second-half shooting effort from the Edinboro (3-1, 1-0 PSAC) Fighting Scots in a 59-48 loss on Friday evening at Thomas Fieldhouse.
The loss was the first of the season for Lock Haven after its best start to the season in 25 years.
Lock Haven jumped all over the Fighting Scots early in the contest, using an 11-2 run to start the game to take an early lead. The Bald Eagles controlled play across the first half and owned a double-digit edge at 26-15 lead at the break.
Out of the intermission, the back-and-forth contest continued as Edinboro warmed up from the floor to chip away at the Lock Haven lead. Edinboro used a full-court press on the defensive end, and went on a 9-0 run to gain its first lead of the game with a 39-34 advantage with 2:21 to play in the stanza.
The Fighting Scots lead didn't last for long though. Parker knocked down a pair of free throws to give Lock Haven the lead back at a 40-39 margin with 1:11 to go in the third. Both teams traded scores over the remaining 1:11 of the frame as the game went to the final quarter at a 42-42 standstill.
Edinboro gained the lead back by scoring six of the first nine points of the fourth quarter to take a 48-45 lead with 4:32 to play. Edinboro was stout defensively and the Fighting Scots rode home with a 59-48 victory.
Parker led all Lock Haven scorers with 15 points. Sophomore
Jackie Fetsko (Marion Center, Pa./Marion Center) added eight points and a team-high nine rebounds for the Bald Eagles.
Brooke Lawyer (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) chipped in nine points and seven boards.
Lock Haven owned the glass with by a 45-37 margin and owned a 28-14 score advantage in the paint.
