LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University lacrosse team is set to open its season at home on Wednesday, March 17, as the team is set to play rival Gannon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division play.
Lock Haven has won nine of the last 10 matchups with Gannon. The Bald Eagles ended the 2020 shortened season by knocking off Gannon 13-9 on March 11. In over a year since competition, LHU Lacrosse will pick up where it left off.
Wednesday's game will start at 4 p.m. The Bald Eagles were originally slated to begin their season against Edinboro on March 13, but that game was postponed to March 24 because of COVID-19 concerns. Please note there will be no spectators allowed at home games.
Wednesday's game will mark the first of six scheduled home games. Lock Haven will only play other PSAC Western Division opponents this year during the regular season and each PSAC West team will play both a home-and-home game against each divisional opponent.
On Saturday (March 20), LHU Lacrosse will travel to IUP to play the first away game of the year. Lock Haven will stay on the road to play Edinboro, nationally-ranked -No. 22- Mercyhurst, and Seton Hill in the team's following three contests.
For head coach
Lindsay Reese, the 2021 season marks her sixth at helm of the perennial power program as she pursues win number 50 as head coach at Lock Haven.
Lauren Girardi (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) will once again lead the team between the posts this year. Last year, the team awarded her team-MVP after she led the PSAC with 63 saves and a PSAC second-best .573 save-percentage.
She currently sits eighth all-time at LHU in career saves with 316 rejections. The record currently sits at in-reach 509-saves. In 2019 the goalkeeper set the LHU single season saves record at the tune of a 209-save campaign. In 2020, Girardi was on pace for 214-save regular season.
Braxtin Reddinger (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) will return as a redshirt-senior this year. The 2019 All-Atlantic Region player finished fourth in the PSAC in draw controls (93) and ninth in the PSAC in assists (24) during the 2019 season. Reddinger is narrowing in on her 100
th goal as a Bald Eagle and needs a mere four more goals to accomplish the feat.
The trio of
Caitlin Morrow (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa),
Campbell Brant (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River), and
Karli Gilbert (Perkiomenville, Pa./Boyertown) may make their presence known on the offensive side of the ball. During the 2020 slate, the three put together a magnificent 23 goals and 36 points in just five games.
In 2021 the defensive unit and notable defenders
Shannen Roy (Doylestown, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and
Allison Barnes (Webster N.Y./Webster Thomas) may be the unsung heroes for the Bald Eagles. In 2020, they helped generate 41 turnovers in just five games.
Back on February 1, the Bald Eagles were picked fourth in the PSAC West by the PSAC Coaches Pre-Season poll. Mercyhurst received five-first place votes and was tabbed as the favorite in the West. Seton Hill and IUP received one first place vote apiece and checked in at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.
In the Eastern Division, nationally-ranked - No. 5- West Chester was selected as the team to beat, while No. 10 ranked East Stroudsburg and Bloomsburg rounded out the top 3.
