LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University baseball team (2-6, 2-6 PSAC East) and Millersville University (6-3, 3-1 PSAC East) capped their weekend series today by splitting the day's doubleheader in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division play.
Millersville came away with the win in game one 10-0, but behind a sensational effort by
David Keller (Oreland, Pa. / Christopher Dock Mennonite) and his nine strikeouts in six shutout-innings, the Bald Eagles pounced on Millersville in game two, coming away with the victory 6-1.
Lock Haven and Millersville - who entered the weekend ranked fourth in the region - opened the four-game PSAC East series yesterday at Millersville, with the Marauders winning both games. The teams then split today's doubleheader.
Game 1 Final: Millersville 10-0
Justin Lichtenwalner (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) broke up the potential no-hitter for Millersville in the fourth after he shot a line drive up the middle and took first base.
Millersville scored ten runs which came on eight hits, as the Marauders came away with the win 10-0.
Game 2 Final: Lock Haven 6–1
Keller put on a clinic in game two, pitching six shutout innings while only allowing two hits. He putdown nine batters by way of strikeouts.
The Bald Eagles were able to capitalize on Keller's performance early in the game. They loaded the bases in the bottom of the first and
Joe Shannon (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent (Mercer C.C.) slapped a ground ball over to short to allow
Reagan Lawlor (McMurry, Pa./Peters Township) find his way home.
In the bottom of the second,
Mike O'Halloran (Monmouth Beach, N.J./ Shore Regional) lined a single to left field and found his way to third after an errant pick-off attempt by the Millersville contingent. A sacrifice fly from
Joey Lowen (Pittsburgh/Mount Lebanon (Onondaga C.C.) brought O'Halloran home.
In the bottom of the fourth, Lowen took first after being hit-by-pitch, and advanced to third on a beautiful bunt down the left field line by
Gavin Troutman (Oley Valley, Pa./Catholic Oley Valley). Lawlor brought him home with a sacrifice fly.
Jake Mastillo (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) kept the fireworks going with a three-run homer, putting the Bald Eagles up 6-0.
Lock Haven gave up a solo home-run in the top of the seventh, but came away with the victory 6-1.
