Lacrosse posts important PSAC West win at Gannon

The LHU lacrosse team held off host Gannon and posted an important late-season PSAC West victory.

ERIE, Pa. – Goalkeeper Lauren Girardi (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) made 12 saves, including two in the final two minutes of play and Caitlin Morrow (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) scored five goals as the Bald Eagle duo led the way for the Lock Haven University lacrosse team (3-4, 3-3 PSAC West) in a winning-effort today on the road. Girardi's stellar late-game play helped LHU hold off Gannon University (1-8, 0-7 PSAC West) 12-11 for a crucial late-season Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division win.

With the win Lock Haven moved back to .500 in divisional play at 3-3.

Braxtin Reddinger (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) scored twice and added four draw controls. Josey Shaffer (Westminster, Md./Manchester Valley) had a goal and two assists and Karli Gilbert (Perkiomenville, Pa./Boyertown) finished with two ground balls, two caused turnovers and a draw.

The game was tied 9-9 with 20 minutes left, but goals from Zoe Waddell (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) and the aforementioned Shaffer put Lock Haven up 11-9. Host Gannon wasn't done and fought back, but again the Bald Eagles answered. Morrow's fifth goal of the game made it 12-10 with 14:38 to play in regulation. The Golden Knights struck again and it was 12-11 Lock Haven with 7:39 to play in the game.

Two of Girardi's 12 saves came with less than two minutes to play, including a stop on a Gannon free-position attempt as she helped Lock Haven preserve the one-goal lead and winning-effort on the road.

Lock Haven's busy stretch continues as the Bald Eagles now turn their attention to a Tuesday, April 20 (4 p.m.) home game with nationally-ranked Seton Hill (PSAC West contest).
