WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men's basketball team (6-11, 3-10 PSAC) far exceeded its season scoring average, but couldn't overcome a hot-shooting effort from West Chester University (10-6, 5-6 PSAC) and dropped a 93-82 affair on Wednesday evening in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division action.
West Chester shot at a blistering 68.4% (13-of-19) clip from beyond the arc on the evening and opened an early lead by shooting 63.6% over the opening 20 minutes of play.
The Golden Rams took an early advantage before Lock Haven responded to take the lead.
Jesse McPherson (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) opened the scoring for the Bald Eagles with a layup before a
DaQuan Granberry (Linwood, Pa./Chichester) pull-up jumper knotted the game up at four a piece.
Dymir Montague (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) gave Lock Haven a 6-4 lead with 17 and change to play in the first half of an up-and-down affair. Granberry added a pair of free throws to push the Bald Eagles out in front by a 15-14 tally with 15:04 to play in the opening half. West Chester responded with a 12-0 run over the next 2:12 to push the lead to double-figures at a 26-15 score with 12:52 remaining in the initial stanza.
Lock Haven responded later in the half to trim the deficit back to single digits. Montague knocked down a driving layup with 6:57 to open a 9-0 Bald Eagles run that saw the Golden Rams lead dwindle to 40-34 with under six left in the first half. West Chester pulled away over the remainder of the first half, to lead by a 54-43 tally at the intermission.
In the second half, the Golden Rams led by as many as 21 points before a late-surge from the Bald Eagles brought the score to within 10. West Chester outscored the Bald Eagles over the final minutes of the game to take home the 93-82 win.
Eli Washington (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) led five Lock Haven scorers in double figures with a game-high 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Lock Haven outscored West Chester by a 42-32 tally in the paint.
McPherson added 14 points and seven rebounds in the loss while
Isaiah Stewart (Madison, Wis./Madison La Follette) tallied a career-high in scoring with 13 points and pulled down a career-high seven rebounds.
