LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Behind three first-period goals, the Lock Haven field hockey team (10-2, 3-1 A-10) cruised to a dominant 5-0 win over Saint Louis (1-11, 0-4 A-10) in Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) action on Friday afternoon at Charlotte E. Smith Field.
Â
With the win, the Bald Eagles improved to 8-0 on their home turf in 2022, and secured a 10-win season for The Haven, the program's first since the 2019 season. The five goals also mark a season-high for Lock Haven.
Â
Alyssa Endrick (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) kicked off the offensive outburst in the ninth minute when she collected a pass off a strong run by
Martina Spangenberg (Buenos Aries, Argentina/Piaget) and slipped it past the goalkeeper for the opening goal.
Â
Spangenberg struck next just two minutes later to put the Bald Eagles up 2-0. The junior fired a shot into the far corner off an assist from
Jazmin Palma (Entre Rios Providence Argentina/Colegio Sagrado Corazon de Jesus).
Â
On a penalty stroke with just under 30 seconds to play in the opening period, Palma tacked on a third goal for Lock Haven with a clinical finish. After a scoreless second period, the Bald Eagles carried a 3-0 lead into halftime.
Â
Brynlee Pinschenat (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) got her name on the scoresheet in the third period with her first goal as a Bald Eagle. The freshman finished off a crossing pass from
Alexis Kern (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Twp.) at the back post to put Lock Haven ahead 4-0.
Endrick capped off the scoring with Lock Haven's fifth of the day and her second of the game just two minutes inside the fourth period. The freshman Pinschenat earned her first career assist on the goal after setting up Endrick to seal the 5-0 win.
In goal,
Kelsey Felix (Hallam, Pa./Eastern York) made six saves as she earned her third clean sheet of the season.
Â
On the backline, Palma and
Ellie Mead (Chesterfield, Va./Cosby (Coker)) anchored the defensive unit which stifled the Billiken attack.
Â
Constanza Lopez Zabala (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Colegio Martin y Omar) and
Anna May Barbusca (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) also turned in strong play through the midfield to push The Haven to the A-10 victory.
