Lacrosse extends win streak with season sweep of Gannon

The LHU lacrosse team picked up an important PSAC West win and gave head coach Lindsay Reese her 50th win at The Haven.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven University lacrosse team (7-4, 4-3 PSAC West) downed visiting Gannon University (4-8, 2-5 PSAC West) 14-8 for an important Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division victory.

The hard-fought win marked Lock Haven's third this season at home and extended the Bald Eagles win streak to three. The win also helped LHU record the season sweep of Gannon after Lock Haven topped the Golden Knights 15-8 back on March 16.

Additionally, the victory provided a milestone win for LHU head coach Lindsay Reese, as it marked her 50th victory at The Haven.
Caitlin Morrow (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) led all scorers with five goals and goalkeeper Lauren Girardi (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) made 10 saves to power LHU to victory.
Josey Shaffer (Westminster, Md./Manchester Valley), Abby Katrinak (Strongsville, Ohio/ Strongsville), Casey Hibbard (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne Central) and Krysta Reading (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) all scored twice for Lock Haven as the four standouts combined for eight of LHU's 14 goals.
Zoe Waddell (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) added a goal for the Bald Eagles. Katrinak and Hibbard each had an assist.

Gracie Chaires (Darlington, Md./Harford Technical) was one of many who played well on defense for Lock Haven. She had two caused turnovers and two ground balls. As a unit, the Bald Eagles defensive side was credited with 13 caused turnovers.

Lock Haven held a 24-19 advantage in ground balls and Reading added nine important draw controls.

LHU led 6-4 at halftime, but netted four goals in each of the final two quarters in the second half to secure the victory at home. A fourth-quarter surge that saw the Bald Eagles outscore Gannon 4-1 helped put the game away.

Lock Haven will return to action on Wednesday, April 13 when the Bald Eagles head to IUP for an important PSAC Western Division contest. The midweek match at IUP will mark the first of four straight road games for LHU.
