LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven men's soccer team (6-8-3, 3-6-2 PSAC East) hosted the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division third-place team West Chester University (10-3-3, 7-2-2 PSAC East) for its final game at Hubert Jack Stadium this season, and fell to the Golden Rams, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 29).
On the rain-filled afternoon, West Chester opened the scoring following a corner opportunity in the 11
th minute.
Rain picked up and continued to fall for the remainder of the match, allowing each defense to settle in.
Lock Haven's best chance to knot the score at one came in the 67
th minute when
Graham Thurley (State College, Pa./Montclair St.) launched a one-timer from 20 yards out, but the Golden Rams' keeper made a leaping save to keep The Haven off the scoreboard.
However, the Golden Rams added an insurance goal in the 74
th minute and secured the shutout over the final 15 minutes to seal the victory.
The crossbar denied the Bald Eagles a chance to cut the deficit in half in the 87
th minute when
Alex Neal (Epsom, England/Royal Russel) and
Tom Pombor (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) fired back-to-back shots that missed the back of the net by inches.
